"U Up?" - A Group Art Show - 7PM -10PM
KO Studio Gallery (9536 Joseph Campau, Hamtramck)
KO Studio Gallery is excited to present “U Up?” - a group art show curated by Max Majoros. “U Up?” examines how written communication plays a role in our relationships, exhibits honest depictions of casual hookup culture, and documents the current state of text messaging as a form of human interaction.
This exhibition seeks to disarm the seemingly-innocent inquiry “U up?”, typically sent in context of casual sex, and rather, use it to sum up what messaging looks like in the 21st century. Works in this exhibition will present viewers with ways to examine their own relationship, and relationships, using messaging shorthand.
“U Up?” will hang from March 6th through the 28th.

Third Man Records Cass Corridor (441 Canfield, Detroit)
THE MAKE-UP is the Washington, DC group that re-defined underground music in the middle and late 1990s with their peculiar and incendiary blend of gospel, garage and yeh-yeh music. The group was widely copied as well and precipitated and inspired a wave of “garage” imitators in the 21st century who often had commercial success but lacked the spark, character, nuance of THE MAKE-UP. Occasionally, when the moon is bright and the wolfsbane blooms, the group has come out of hiding for rare and exciting personal appearances since disbanding in 2001. They are making one of their rare returns now for a short time only!
The Mauskovic Dance Band combines elements of cumbia, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, & space disco in equal measure to create a unique hypnotic groove. The group is the brainchild of Nicola Mauskovic, Amsterdam based producer and multi-instrumentalist.

New Positions: Danish Art and Design in Detroit - 6PM - 8PM
Simone DeSousa Gallery (444 W Willis, Units 111 and 112, Detroit)
Simone DeSousa EDITION is pleased to present New Positions a special exhibition highlighting six Danish contemporary artists and designers that are part of a residency in Detroit. The residency, spanning October 2019 through March 2020, has been supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, and coordinated by U.S. based Danish ceramist Anders Ruhwald. Resident artists and designers were connected to two local schools, Cranbrook Academy of Art and College for Creative Studies, allowing them to take part in the professional artistic environment, interact and exchange ideas, while being able to expand their network and immerse themselves in the current Detroit art scene.
Home Influences - 6PM
Hatch Art (3456 Evaline St, Detroit)
A common theme throughout art history is the way artists influenced each other. France's Impressionists and Surrealists, Andy Warhol's The Factory, and even Detroit's Cass Corridor all saw groups of artists affecting each other and then altering the art world. The Fishnet Studios, located in Dearborn above a fish market, is a diverse group of artists working in a relatively small shared space, influencing each other as they pursue their artistic paths, hoping that collectively they can push themselves to epic heights.
This show features selections from artists at the Fishnet Studios, including:
Sunshine Durant
Tom Livo
Sasha Corder
Carl George
Damon Firstborn
Samar Salam
Amanda Shaltis
Eli T. Mond
